Children's Lessons - Class Descriptions

 

Parent and baby (3*– 12 months)

You will help your child learn safe behaviour routines, underwater swimming and water safety skills. This will enable them to jump in to the water and turn around underwater.

Parent and toddler (12 – 36 months)

A gentle and progressive learn to swim and water safety programme. Our goal is to teach your baby to swim and learn how to be safe around water.

Toddler lessons (3 – 5 yrs)

Duck 01 (working towards: Duckling 1)

Requirements: non confident, new non-swimmer.

They’ll be encouraged to enter the pool safely, bob up and down in the water, travel across the water, blow bubbles on the surface of the water and exit the pool with assistance.

MONTEM - Mondays - 4.00pm

                Saturdays - 9.30am, 10.00am - FROM 1st JUNE

      

Duck 02 (working towards: Duckling 2)

Requirements: confident in water, non swimmer.

For pupils to develop and advance their water confidence and water travel. As they progress we will reduce the reliability on their aids.

Duck 03 (working towards: Duckling 3)

Requirements: confident non-swimmer who is unable to swim the width of the teaching pool with or without swimming aids or floats, but is comfortable with submerging. As they progress we will reduce the reliance on their aids.

They’ll be encouraged to develop water confidence and will be introduced to stroke and skill practices, aiming to swim a few metres front and back without aids.

Duck 04 and Duck 05 (working towards: Duckling 4 and 5)

Requirements: for children that can swim at least 3metres without aids on their front and back. They must be confident to jump in the water, swim with their faces in the water and submerge. These awards will develop their strokes further, aiming to swim 10metres unaided on their front and back, as well as be introduced to breastroke and butterfly (dolphin) kick.

Children's lessons age 5yrs and up

5+Beginners (Montem)

Requirement: Non-swimmer, no previous swimming lessons

MONTEM - Wednesdays - 6.00pm

     

Stage 01 (working towards: ASA Stage 1)

Requirements: Non-swimmer, unable to swim 5m with/without swimming aids or floats.

They’ll be encouraged to develop water confidence and be introduced to stroke and skill practices. As they progress we will reduce the reliance on their aids.

Stage 02 (working towards: ASA Stage 2)

Requirements: Children who can swim 5 metres without aids.

They must be confident to jump in, swim with their face down in the water and submerge, as they will be developing stroke technique.

Stage 03 (working towards: ASA Stage 3)

Requirements: For children who can swim 5-10metres on their front and back without floats. They must be confident with jumping in, putting their faces in the water and submerging.

They will be developing stroke techniques and learning new skills.

Stage 04 (working towards: ASA Stage 4)

Requirements: Children who can swim 10 metres showing basic skills in front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.

They will develop technique and stamina, as well as develop breastroke and butterfly.

Stage 05 (working towards: ASA Stage 5)

Requirements: For children who can swim 10 metres plus of  front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and basic butterfly.

They will be introduced to deep-water skills. The lessons will include stroke development, safety awareness, jumping, early diving development and treading water, as well as wokring on butterfly technique

Stage 06 (working towards: ASA Stage 6)

Requirements: For children who can swim 25 metres plus of front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, can tread water and are confident in deep water.

This is the first introduction to lane swimming. They will continue to improve stroke development and stamina.

Stage 07 (working towards ASA Stage 7)

Requirements: For children who can swim 100 metres plus in front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, can tread water, perform correct dives and tumble turns, and are confident in deep water.

They will continue to improve stroke development, basic diving safety awareness and stamina. They are working at and towards almost club-standard swimming.

Bronze and Silver (working towards: bronze and silver challenge)

Requirements: For children who can swim at least four lengths plus in the main 3 strokes, and 2 lengths of butterfly in an effective style. They will continue to improve their strokes and water skills, increase the distance they swim and be introduced to competitive techniques including turns and using the pace clock.

Gold (working towards gold challenge)

Course for advanced swimmers or by recommendation for pupils focusing on fitness involving length swimming with drills to develop stamina and stroke correction. Personal survival awards are also covered.

Honours (working towards honours challenge)

Further development of stamina and speed, accompanied with the fine-tuning of stroke technique.
